Verdaguer Museum |
| |
|
The
Cases Garriga (Garriga Houses), headquarters
of the Verdaguer Centre, are a clear example
of the late XIX (and early XX) Century houses of the
socalled Americanos or Indianos (nobobs),
native Lloret people who emigrated to America seeking
fortune and who, on returning rich to Lloret, lived
off their private income and had truly palatial mansions
built.
Nowadays, is a construction type which lends itself
to reconversion into a building for exhibitions, receptions,
cultural events, etc.

L'Angel (1904) |
| |
|
This
is the first monument dedicated to the catalan poet
and writer Mossen Cinto Verdaguer, created by
the sculptor Eugeni Arnau, from the modernist
school.
This
superb sculpture, is located on the summit known as
Ses Pedres Lluitores, a few 20 minutes walking
distance from the hermitage. At the base there is a
flight of steps and a heap natural blocks. At the peak,
the right hand of an angel with its wings extended points
toward the road leading to the hermitage, while the
left hand holds a star.
The
body of the work, features a stone relief on each side.
The side facing the sea, wich is the principal side,
represents Nostra Senyora de Gracia (our Lady
of Grace) and at her feet there is a bronze medallion
with an effigy of Mossen Cinto, modelled by Arnau,
and the popular Verdaguerian quatrian: "Maria
al Cel guia / per camí de flors / anem-hi, correm-hi,
cantant sos amors".
The
artistic portion of the monument was planned and directed
by Montsardà. The scupture part is by
Federico Bechini, based on the Arnau
model, and the decorative sculpture by Joan Pujol.
The bust of Verdaguer, in emboss relief was forged
in the workshop of Mas Riera i Campins.
